The project presented the opportunity to design a small freestanding modernist interpretation of a "woman-cave". The so-called Fake Cave then took form from the client's last name and intended program: private space to withdraw from the main house and all of its interruptions, noises and responsibilities. Delving further into the client's identity as a writer, the Fake Cave situates itself at the back of the lot, positioned to look out onto the garden. The front house serves as a background element from this vantage point, with all the related concerns dropping behind the lush plantings. The rear windows are 3 Form panels, frequently interchanged to suit client's writing moods.
