Looking around San Francisco it’s evident that there are a wide array of fantastic outdoor spaces to occupy on a fog-free day. After studying the ratio of public outdoor-space to area per neighborhood, SOMA is at the bottom of the list. This project aimed to improve the lack of outdoor public space. Eleventh Street has a fairly narrow sidewalk and the entire area is quite popular in the evenings, therefore this project performs well in the sunshine or moonlight.

The barrier edge of the parklet doubles as a perceptually manipulative sculpture. The viewing experience is interactive — the barrier’s forms interplay as you move by on foot, on a bicycle, or in a car. The materials used offer a sense of confidence and peace of mind to occupants.
